Unclogging Bathroom Sinks

If your bathroom sink is clogged, the first thing to do is find out the cause. Even though you might not be stuffing a bunch of hair down the sink, you might not realize the amount of stuff that’s actually building up gradually over time. A little bit of hair every day (or a few times a week) slowly adds up, especially if someone shaves over the sink. When you combine that with soap scum or residue from other grease-based products, it turns into a sludgy hairball that isn’t broken apart very easily.

Many people don’t realize that the best way to deal with these hairballs is to actually remove them from the top side. If you try to push them down the drain, it can actually do more harm than good because you’re just going to move the obstruction further down. There are many videos on Youtube showing how to access the stopper in your sink. Some of them can be removed very easily, but others might be more of a challenge. I highly recommend removing the stopper. Once you do, it’ll probably have all that hair and scum attached to it. Put some rubber gloves on or use a rag to clean it thoroughly. Once you replace the stopper, you’ll find that the sink drains much, much quicker.

If you’re not comfortable doing this yourself, call a professional. It is a pretty nasty task, and there are a couple of steps that might take some handiness. For professional assistance with making sure your drains are in working order, contact us online or give us a call at 540-483-9382.
