Problematic well water involves any situation where there are multiple issues such as PH levels not being correct, high iron content, elevated hardness levels, or any type of nuisance bacteria. When Evolve got started in the late 1960s with manufacturing water treatment equipment, they excelled at treating problematic water. Today, Evolve knows well water inside and out. Other companies may have started with municipal water, which is much easier to filter, and then later moved into well water. They would likely have trouble understanding the intricacies of dealing with well water effectively.
If you have a well, it is going to use a pump, which is a private system. Evolve understands that you have to have a certain amount of gallons of water per minute to flush the system well and to clean it whenever it goes into a regeneration cycle. Another thing to consider with a pump is that it will be at its highest pressure when it first turns on. If the pump is used for an extended period of time, the pressure will gradually drop until it maintains a steady (but much lower) pressure. Evolve gives the pump rest periods during regeneration sequences to allow it to recoup. It will end up having more pressure and more water available at its start time, leading to much better cleaning on the units themselves. They are going to last longer and have less maintenance issues.
As I mentioned in a previous post, we use Crystal-Right Media. Crystal-Right Media is designed to work effectively with well water. A single unit with this kind of media can remove iron, sulfur, manganese, and also deal with PH correction. Along with being so versatile, this media has a sanitizing feature that is not harmed by chlorine. The alternative is a resin type media which is a very small plastic bead. Over a period of four to six years, the iron creates a layer around the small bead, causing it to become ineffective. Crystal-Right Media is much more porous, allowing it to push off debris and clean itself. This allows the media to last much longer than the alternative.
Another advantage of Crystal-Right Media is the ability to deal with PH correction very efficiently. PH correction is measured using a balance scale between 0 and 14, with 7 being neutral (we shoot for 7 to 7.5). If you improperly size your PH correction unit, one of two things can happen: You’re either going to correct it too high, resulting in very bad tasting water, or not high enough, resulting in corrosive water that eats up the pipes. We make sure to use the right sized equipment, along with a piece of equipment that has rest times for the pump. A PH correction unit needs as much flow and pressure as possible to prevent clumping. Problematic well water can be managed effectively by using the proper equipment, keeping your family safe and healthy.
