While it is important to hire a licensed plumber, plumbing licenses are really just pieces of paper. Just because someone is licensed doesn’t necessarily mean that they know what they are doing. Plumbers should be licensed at a minimum, but they should also have a reputation demonstrating how well they provide support after the service call is complete. If a customer has any problems with the work that was done, does that individual stand behind their work? After all, a bad experience doesn’t necessarily happen with the initial visit. It’s not until something ends up going wrong later when the plumber cannot be reached.
We recently heard from a client with a pretty large home and pool who was dealing with a sewer line issue created by another utility contractor. They had several people out to the location to try and figure how to solve the problem. Unfortunately, there were holes in this person’s yard and we were the fourth company to come out and try to provide a solution. Sewage problems in a yard where you’ve got dirt and mud are very frustrating, especially around a pool. (It also doesn’t look very attractive.) Hiring someone with the tools, resources, equipment, and knowledge to solve a very complex problem really made all the difference in their situation.
Sometimes complex problems can require multiple visits. We don’t like that, of course, but issues aren’t always solved on the first visit. You’ll want to know that the person you hired will be persistent. We’ve had several clients share stories about how they hired someone who was very inexpensive only to find out that they didn’t stand behind their work. One homeowner told us about their flooded crawlspace where the plumber didn’t hook up a pipe correctly. The individual they hired just wouldn’t answer the phone after that. A plumber’s reputation is a good predictor of whether or not you’ll be able to reach them when something goes wrong.
At Wisler Plumbing & Air we always try to give at least a 1 year warranty on repairs that we do, or a 2 year warranty for Diamond Club members. (However, sometimes we do disclaim the warranty if the homeowner asks us to do something that we do not recommend.) Some water heaters have a lifetime warranty, and we generally have a 10 year parts warranty for HVAC systems. In addition, you have the option to buy an extended warranty that covers labor. We also pride ourselves in making sure we’re available to our customers. Our own staff answers the phones 24/7. Sometimes you might have to leave a message, but we’ll get right back to you. Our 100% satisfaction guarantee means that we’ll do whatever it takes to create satisfaction for the job we were hired to do. We’re not perfect and we do fail on rare occasions, but we’re able to acknowledge when it happens and make things right.
