One of the more important things that a plumber does is protect the health and safety of homeowners. If the plumbing wasn’t working correctly then it could potentially lead to health and safety issues. For example, sewage is definitely a very unsafe substance to be exposed to. Here are a few things you can do to make sure that your home’s plumbing will prevent you from getting sick.
Bathroom
To keep your bathroom sanitary, all fixtures that are connected to the floor or wall should be properly caulked and closed off. Check around the base of the toilet to make sure it’s completely sealed. A warm, wet environment is an ideal breeding ground for mold. Of course, mold can be dangerous and even aggravate respiratory issues.
If the seal between the toilet and the floor has gone bad, it could result in a very slow leak. Once moisture gets into the wood components in the home’s construction, it’ll probably cause rotting. This is going to lead to an unsanitary condition and potentially cause sickness.
Remember, if the toilet rocks when you sit on it, that’s definitely not a good sign. That’s an indication that the seal has gone bad. The bottom line is, the bathroom should be maintained so that nothing is loose and no water is showing up on the floor.
Kitchen
Plumbing issues in the kitchen need to be addressed quickly because food is involved. Any leaks need to be addressed immediately to reduce the chances of you getting sick. The garbage disposal also needs some special attention because it can build up fat, oil, and grease. If the kitchen starts to smell bad around the sink area, it’s probably due to all the material that’s been put down the drain and garbage disposal.
Dirty garbage disposals are both smelly and unsanitary. It’s really bacteria that causes the foul odor. Once you remove the unsanitary bacteria, the smell will go away as well. We have a product called BioSmart that eats up organic materials like fat, oil, and grease to keep the drains unobstructed and clean.
If you prefer to have peace of mind when it comes to preventing sickness in your home, we recommend joining our Diamond Club. As part of the included annually scheduled maintenance, we’ll inspect the toilet to make sure it doesn’t move or rock when you sit on it. We also make sure that bathroom fixtures have a proper caulking seal around the floor/wall. Additionally, we’ll check all the drains above and below the sinks for any leaks or clogs.
