- My Watch
One of the main things I manage is time. A leader once told me, “If you’re a manager who doesn’t wear a watch, you aren’t really a manager.” (I made sure to pick up a watch that same day.) I’ve grown to value the concept of time management because we’re only given so much time each day. I do believe that a watch helps you to stay efficient. You won’t be caught by surprise when 5:00 p.m. rolls around and you haven’t gotten much done. I actually misplaced my watch a few days ago, and I really struggled without it. It’s definitely very important to me.
- My Cell Phone
Most people are attached to their cell phones these days, but they are extremely useful multipurpose devices. I use my phone’s camera to share information with clients and employees. I also use it to augment my own memory. This past Sunday, for example, I was in a restaurant that had a poster listing that day’s specials. I took a picture of it and brought it back to my table.
I also keep my schedule on my phone, which syncs with my computer. It’s definitely helpful with allocating time for important tasks. Most importantly, though, I value how my phone makes me available to the people that need me. Whether it’s my clients, employees, or family, my cell phone allows me to be accessible by those who need to talk with me. I try to answer my phone if at all possible whenever it rings.
- My iPad
Today we try to be as mobile as possible—my iPad is exactly that. It’s really a computer that I can easily bring along with me wherever I go. At any given time, I can check work schedules and perform most of the tasks that I can do at my desk. It’s definitely useful when I’m on the road or at home.
