There are a few common misconceptions about plumbers out there that shed a very negative light on the industry as a whole. They are frustrating to hear, but these misconceptions may gradually go away with enough time and proper information. Here are five common misconceptions, and what we’re doing at Wisler Plumbing to make them go away.
Misconception #1: Scheduling a technician to visit your home will be difficult.
We think that being punctual is extremely important. At Wisler Plumbing, we schedule two hour windows for the visit and then call when we’re on the way. We understand that our clients’ time is valuable. It’s important that clients have an expectation of when a technician will show up. Even though we may not know exactly how long the visit will take, we will communicate a timeframe once we have an idea of the nature of work that needs to be done.
We simply don’t think that people need to have the bad experience of being inconvenienced by the plumbing visit. Equally as important, the technician should never waste the homeowner’s time.
Misconception #2: You’re out of luck if the issue wasn’t completely fixed.
In previous blog posts, we talked about having knowledgeable, competent, and experienced people on our team. While we’re not a perfect company by any means, we do focus on standing behind our work. If we made a mistake, we will come back to take care of it as soon as possible.
Misconception #3: A plumber is too expensive.
One of the reasons this misconception persists is because of companies that charge by the hour. Because hourly rates give no clear indication of how long the job will take, it may result in invoice shock once the job is complete.
At Wisler Plumbing, we give an upfront price before the work is done to prevent invoice shock. Our clients will know how much the job will cost in advance. While the cost still may be expensive depending on what needs to be done, it will be fair and there will be no surprises.
Misconception #4: Plumbers are untrustworthy or have shady pasts.
We have a standard at Wisler Plumbing to make sure that everyone on our team is background checked and competently trained. We know that drug use can lead to theft or inability to do a good job, so everyone is drug tested as well. We even make sure that everyone hired at Wisler Plumbing has completely clean driving records. That means that you can trust our technicians without having to stay and babysit your home.
Misconception #5: When the plumber comes to visit, we’ll have no idea what to expect.
Most of our clients are inexperienced with having a plumber visit their home. This is why we have a process that we go through to let the homeowner know exactly what to expect very soon after we arrive at their house. We will communicate the timeframe that we will make the visit, diagnose the problem, and then share our findings. We will also write the costs for the available options and then get the homeowner’s approval. From there, we will be able to get the job done and receive payment once the client is completely satisfied.
Much of the awkwardness that a homeowner may experience when having a plumber visit the home will be alleviated. We communicate the entire process clearly so the client doesn’t have to feel embarrassed by asking certain questions.
Hopefully, having the knowledge about the way we do business at Wisler Plumbing will set these misconceptions to rest. If you have any plumbing questions, give us a call at (540) 685-0366.
