Top 5 Family Fun Suggestions in Roanoke

Every now and again, we step away from our plumbing to have a little fun. There are a lot of interesting activities to do here in Roanoke. I’ll give you my top 5, but beware I do have two young children, so this list is going to be geared a little bit more towards younger kids.

 1. Splash Valley

Splash Valley in Roanoke has almost anything water related that you can think of: water slides, pools, water sports, etc. They even have a lap pool so the adults can enjoy themselves, too. There’s a pretty decent area, and it’s just a lot of fun. If you go during the weekdays it usually isn’t too crowded.

 2. Launching Pad

Launching Pad is a unique place. It’s a huge area that has nothing but trampolines in it. There are regular trampolines where you can do whatever you want. There’s also a trampoline court that you can use to play dodgeball along with basketball hoops that you can fold down. Higher up is a place that you can jump onto (kind of like a stunt pad). It’s actually a very high intensity activity. You wouldn’t think that jumping around is much of a workout, but believe me, it is.

 3. Roanoke Mill Mountain

If you’re looking for something a little bit more low key, Roanoke Mill Mountain is a great place to check out. There’s hiking, bike trails, and a zoo that’s great for younger children. The Star is a great evening spot to go and look out over Roanoke Valley.

 4. Bridgewater Plaza

Down at Smith Mountain Lake is Bridgewater Plaza. There are all kinds of fun activities to try out. There’s dining, music, put-put golf, ice cream, desserts, shopping, boat rentals, and jet ski rentals.

 5. Smith Mountain Lake State Park

If you’re looking to go to the beach, the lake, or out for hiking, Smith Mountain Lake State Park has all those things. It’s a great place to stay for the weekend.
